It’s a String Thing’s 5th Birthday!

I’m in awe of Adele Bruno’s ability to keep her challenges going for 5 years! As a blogger myself, I know the work that goes into scheduled weekly posting and this is a feat! For her birthday string, she created this string.

Adding 4 tangles from her IAST birthday from the last 4 years:

Kitl by Ragged Ray

Prestwood by Margaret Brenner

O by Adele Bruno and

Knightsbridge (a Zentangle original) by Maria Thomas

I’ve been sick this last week and I felt like I was limited on creativity, but I wanted to be sure to participate for IAST’S 5th Birthday. I will now turn off my inner critic! Here’s my birthday tile! I didn’t have room for ALL the languages of participants all over the world, but I included: English, Spanish, German, French, Dutch, Italian and Hindi. So much fun! See you all soon for the next Diva Challenge!

CZT 32 and It’s a String Thing 257

Welcome to The Tireless Tangler everyone! It is time for this week’s “It’s a String Thing” challenge number 257! This week was a special treat for me as Adele Bruno chose CZT, Jody Genovese’s new Tangle “Twilight“. Jody is very special to me and I had planned to give twilight a try but hadn’t had a chance. Adele gave me the perfect chance this week and I was thrilled!

Here’s my tile! Awesome Tangle Jody! So many possibilities! 💜

Finally, I have the most amazing news! Last week, I thought my dream of attending CZT 32 in October was lost. I still had $900.00 to  raise. I didn’t think I could possibly do it by my August 26, deadline. Then Monday, a CZT who’d already donated sent in $150. A few small donations trickled in but on Tuesday I wrote Zentangle apologizing but canceling my spot. On Wednesday, I contacted my donors to let them know that I wouldn’t be able to attend. I was short about $600. Thursday was full of craziness, my son had a serious problem at school but Facebook was lighting up and the donations started to roll in. My brother made another donation and I was almost there, just $300 to go. God sent an angel in the form of a CZT I knew from the Zentangle ® Mosaic App. She and her wife donated the rest of it! It took another 24 hours for the stunned feeling to wear off!

I am humbled, and so grateful for each and every donor, for all the well wishes and supportive words! About 2 weeks ago, I was scammed for a small amount by someone saying they wanted to help. I could not believe that people were willingly preying on the needy. My faith in humanity took a hit. This week all of you showed me there is hope and goodness still in the world and it lives in the Zentangle community!

Thank you all for your kindness and support! 💜 CZT 32 here I come! 😍 I can’t believe my dream is actually coming true! Stay tuned for more CZT stories and be prepared to travel with me! No way I’m not shooting pics from training for you all!

It’s a String Thing 256

Hi everyone and welcome back to the Tireless Tangler! I had such fun with the String Thing challenge this week! The string was a simple circle and Zendala tiles were recommended. I used one of my precious Zentangle ® tiles in black. Adele Bruno at Tickledtotangle chose 3 tiles from Belgium CZT, Ria Matheussen. I’ve always appreciated Ria’s art and the chance to spend time with her patterns was an unexpected pleasure. Mazorito, Hexa, and Horti were full of promise. I wish I had time for a square tile in black and white but…here is my Zendala, using Sakura Moonlight Gelly Rolls and Sakura Stardust in silver.

It’s a String Thing #253

It’s a new week in the “It’s a String Thing”challenge from Adele Bruno at Tickled to Tangle! I thoroughly enjoyed this week’s challenge which included all Zentangle ® original Tangles. Crescent Moon, Nipa and Printemps were on the Tangle list for this challenge. The string was a zigzag M shape and it reminded me rather strongly of the string and tangles from the first lesson in the Zentangle Primer. I’ve repeated that lesson many times and I really enjoyed merging crescent moon and nipa! My shading is a mess but overall, I’m pleased with the result! As always, you can join the challenge at Adele Bruno’s blog here!

Here’s my tile!

It’s a String Thing 252

Hello everyone! Welcome to The Tireless Tangler! It’s time for the weekly It’s a String Thing challenge number 252. This week, Adele Bruno challenged us to explore the Tangle “Deeday“. DeeDay was new to me and I really enjoyed the challenge to use DeeDay in 2 ways. One, as a String, and another using the string provided by Adele. Eni Oken’s MicroTangling lesson is still very much influencing my tangling at the moment, as evidenced by the 2nd tile. I encourage you to explore DeeDay in your next tile! As always, you can join the “It’s a String Thing” challenge by visiting Adele’s blog, Tickled to Tangle!

Here is this week’s string.

Independence Day with It’s a String Thing 250!

I’ve completed my IAST challenge early this week as the challenge was Independence Day themed for those in the USA. As I have needed to crawl under my bed for weeks this time of year, I decided to post today before my eventual hiding takes place. Here is my tile. A heartfelt congratulations go out to Adele Bruno at Tickledtotangle.blogspot.com. This is her 250th challenge!

This is the most difficult holiday for me to handle. 2 years ago, a young man I loved as a son, took his own life setting in place a heart breaking series of events. A month later, his girlfriend took her life and 2 weeks after that I lost a dear friend to suicide. This was the worst year, worst pain, worst losses I’ve experienced. 2 years later, I have very few answers and I’m still very angry. I’m saying this in a public forum to share these few thoughts.

First, suicide is a huge guilt trip for those left behind. We go over and over events wondering how we could have changed things or said something different to save them. Most of the time, we couldn’t have changed it and we have to remember that their choices were not ours. We couldn’t have stopped them. I need to remind myself daily of this!

Second, the pain is something I try to deal with but can’t. It does dull a bit over time but is right there roaring back to consume me at any moment.

Last, it is okay to be angry at their choices. I hope this is true as that is still the way I feel most days.

If someone is telling you they want to make that choice, don’t wait. Call a hotline, get help, take advice from doctors. Do NOT wait and hope for the best. Whether or not they are serious, get help. The National Suicide Prevention Hotline is tel:1-800-273-8255

If you have lost a loved one to suicide, find some useful information here.

Rest In Peace my beautiful Sean.

It’s a String Thing 248 a lá MicroTangling

It’s time for the weekly “it’s a string thing” challenge! Number 248 was to draw a monotangle using the Zentangle ® Original Tangle, Drupe. I love Drupe but wanted to find a new take on an old favorite! Enter Eni Oken’s new lesson called MicroTangling. I enjoyed this lesson and the techniques it teaches very much! Here’s my Drupe tile with a MicroTangling flair. It was much more zenful than I expected, given my issue with straight lines! Join the “It’s a String Thing” challenge at Tickledtotangle.blogspot.com

I haven’t talked about Eni Oken’s Art Club for awhile as my efforts have been going into my YouTube channel, but I’ve still been enjoying the lessons Eni is offering to Art Club. Because I’m struggling with my concentration, I haven’t caught up with posting the tiles. Here are a couple from MicroTangling, Fragmented Windows, Zenbuttons, and Blue Starfish. You can find Eni’s lessons here!

It’s a String Thing #247

Welcome back to thetirelesstangler.com! It is time for the new “It’s a String Thing” challenge  number 247! This week, in honor of Father’s day, we used a “D” shaped string and 3 “D” tangles! Drua by CZT, Mei Hua Teng, A-dalpha by CZT, Bunny Wright, and the Zentangle original pattern, Dex by Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas.

This one turned out quite a bit different than I thought it would, however, I’m pleased with the result!

If you’d like to join the fun, start here, at Adele Bruno’s blog, Tickled to Tangle!

It’s a String Thing Challenge 236

I’ve finally managed to get my IAST 236 tile both finished, and submitted to Adele Bruno! I have the tiles from last week and the week before but completely forgot to send them in. This week’s string was reminiscent of Easter Eggs and included 3 awesome tangles. The Zentangle ® Original tangle Zenith, Sarah Fowler’s new tangle, Safflower, and Wavelin by Cyndi Knapp. Here’s my tile from this week and after, my IAST 235 tile. If you’d like to join Adele’s “its a String Thing” challenge, you can find it here at Tickledtotangle.blogspot.com.
